In this paper we will deal with the satirical elements found in the works of the Portuguese Antonio da Fonseca Soares and Brazilian Gregorio de Matos e Guerra, seventeenth-century poets who have common features, such as the fetus and cultism, features originated from Spanish masters Quevedo and Góngora. The two poets studied here use satire as a form of denunciation of the people and the Portuguese and Brazilian society of that time, because they both lived in both the metropolis and in the colony.
