Early this century, several crises are intertwined and the environmental crisis is the most global of them all. In this context, emerged as an environmental education learn to overcome the crisis. This article aims to discuss the ideas of biology teachers in the city of Piracicaba-SP on Environmental Education and from there to reflect on the theme of inclusion in the initial training of teachers. The methodology used a structured questionnaire-based instrument VOSTS (Views on Science-Technology-Society), produced by Aikenhead and Ryan (1992) and the data were analyzed qualitatively. The results indicate that the biology teachers surveyed still have a naive conception of environmental education and training courses need to commit to structural and curricular changes that make the effective insertion of the subject in teacher training in the region studied.Nesse início de século XXI, várias crises se entrelaçam e a crise ambiental é a mais planetária de todas elas. Nesse contexto a Educação Ambiental surge como um saber para superar a crise. O presente artigo teve como objetivo discutir as ideias dos professores de Biologia do município de Piracicaba/SP sobre Educação Ambiental e a partir disso refletir sobre a inserção da temática na formação inicial desses professores. A metodologia utilizou um questionário estruturado baseado no instrumento VOSTS (Views on Science-Technology-Society), produzido por Aikenhead y Ryan (1992) e os dados obtidos foram analisados qualitativamente. Os resultados indicam que os professores de biologia entrevistados ainda tem uma concepção ingênua sobre a Educação Ambiental e que os cursos de formação inicial precisam se comprometer com mudanças estruturais e curriculares que façam a inserção efetiva da temática na formação dos professores da região estudada
