The subfamily Corydoradinae with a total of 183 valid species, and includes, among Aspidoras, Brochis and Scleromystax, the genus Corydoras, the largest among the Siluriformes and very well known in the aquarium hobby. Callichthyidae have a wide geographical distribution, occurring from rivers of the Pacific slope, in Panama, to the basin of the La Plata River in eastern Argentina. Considering the promising use of DNA barcode to species identification, the present study aimed to test the hypothesis that it is possible to molecularly identify the species of Corydoradinae, using the technique of DNA barcoding and with the data generated to create a database to allow molecular identification of the specimens studied.
