Influência de variáveis meteorológicas sobre a fenologia de espécies arbóreas em áreas urbanas

Urban heat island is the name of the phenomenon describing that certain areas of a city become warmer than the surroundings due to physical changes on the urban environment. The study of urban phenology is an excellent indicator of the effects of urban heat islands and allow to access the potential impacts of climate change on plants. However, studies on urban phenology related to heat island effects are rare for tropical cities. The present thesis aims to study the occurrence of urban heat islands affecting the phenology of tropical trees in urban tropical environments seeking to explain: (i) what is the effect of urban heat islands on the phenology of three tree species in a tropical city comparing to a temperate city, (ii) develop and test a new methodology for analyzing the tropical urban landscape and (iii) verify if the study region has undergone changes in the time series of temperature and humidity, and understand if this change is related to a global or local factors. In chapter 1 we verified that Tipuana tipu is an excellent indicator of climate alterations in tropical urban areas, but phenology changes are stronger in temperate cities. In Chapter 2 we propose a new methodology for the study of urban climate and phenology, which take into account various aspects of the landscape of cities. In chapter 3 we observe that the region of the study area presented several changes in urban climate in a regional aspect, not related to global climate changes but the local history of urbanizationIlha de calor é o nome dado ao fenômeno em que determinadas regiões da cidade ficam mais quentes que as áreas de entorno, o que ocorre devido a alterações físicas no meio urbano. O estudo da fenologia urbana é um excelente indicador dos efeitos das ilhas de calor e do potencial impacto de mudanças climáticas nas plantas; mas são raros em ambientes tropicais. Esta dissertação tem como objetivo estudar a existência de ilhas de calor afetando a fenologia de árvores em ambientes urbanos tropicais, procurando explicar: (i) qual o efeito das ilhas de calor sobre a fenologia de três espécies arbóreas em uma cidade tropical; (ii) desenvolver e testar uma nova metodologia de análise da paisagem urbana tropical e; (iii) verificar se a região estudada passou por algum momento de mudança em suas séries históricas de temperatura e umidade; e compreender se esta mudança está relacionada a uma alteração global ou local. No capítulo 1 verificamos que Tipuana tipu é uma excelente indicadora de alterações climáticas em meio urbano tropical, mas mudanças fenológicas são mais acentuadas e marcantes em cidades temperadas. No capítulo 2 propomos uma nova metodologia para estudos de fenologia e clima urbano, que levem em conta diversos aspectos da paisagem das cidades.
