Complementary nanoprobes have been utilized in this work, namely STXM, TEM and SAXS, to link morphology information to physical properties observed on the meso- and macroscopic scale. By the combination of various methods within national and international collaborations, we contributed to reports on power efficiency improvements in fullerene:polymer based OSCs upon nanomorphological modifications induced upon addition of sensitizers (Si-/C-PCPDTBT) or solvent additives (DIO). Addition of Si-PCPDTBT in small amounts to P3HT:ICBA-based OSCs lead to an PCE increase due to preferred interaction of Si-PCPDTBT with P3HT, whereas the heteroanalogues C-PCPDTBT reduces the spacing and purity of ICBA-rich domains and, hence, the overall cell ...
