In deeply virtual Compton scattering a virtual photon mediates the scattering between an incoming lepton and a quark that has been taken out of the nucleon. The quark emits a real photon and joins the nucleon while possibly exciting it to a resonant state. The description of this process within the framework of Generalized Parton Distributions gives access to the total angular momentum of quarks inside the nucleon. This information will provide valuable insight into the spin decomposition of the nucleon.
