Die strukturellen und nanomechanischen Eigenschaften von selbstorganisierten Lagen (self-assembled monolayers, SAMs) aus Alkanthiolaten auf Kupfer-, Silber- und Goldoberflächen wurden mit Dichtefunktionaltheorie-Rechnungen untersucht. Bei Anwendung externer Kräfte auf die üblicherweise rekonstruierten Metall-Thiolat Grenzflächen konnten verschiedene Phänomene beobachtet werden, die von der Stärke und Richtung der Kraftvektoren abhängen. Auf Au(111) und Ag(111) Oberflächen erzeugen laterale und senkrechte Kräfte eine Verschiebung von Metalllagen bzw. die Desorption der Thiolate.
