Beobachtungen im Sonnenwind zeigen, dass in der Parameter-Ebene definiert durch die Anisotropie und das Plasmabeta eine stabile Konfiguration des Plasma nur in einem Bereich um die Werte 1 möglich ist. Die Grenzen für große Plasmabeta stimmen dabei mit den numerisch vorhergesagten Stabilitätsgrenzen für Plasmainstabilitäten überein, was darauf hindeutet, dass diese Instabilitäten im Sonnenwind Plasma aktiv sind und die beobachtete Temperaturanisotropie begrenzen. Ziel der Arbeit war es, auch die Grenzen für kleine Plasmabeta zu verstehen und mit Hilfe der linearen kinetischen Theorie analytische Instabilitätsbedingungen herzuleiten.
