Numerous representatives of this family of heterocycles have been synthesized, where the boron atom is linked to various π-conjugated scaffolds. Herein the 10-π-electron containing benzodiazaborole unit acts as a π-electron-donor. Conjugation of the vacant 2pz-orbital at the boron center with the π-orbitals of the attached organic π-systems is responsible for unique absorption and emission characteristics such as large Stokes shifts and high quantum yields.
