Analisis kemampuan pemecahan masalah siswa pada materi SPLDV ditinjau dari kemampuan kognitif

The research aims to: (1) Describe the problem solving capacity of junior high school student according to John A. Malone towards the subject of System of Linear Equations in Two Variables (SPLDV) from the perspective of impulsive and reflective cognitive style. (2) Determine the factors affecting students’ problem solving capacity according to John A. Malone in the subject of SPLDV viewed from the impulsive and reflective cognitive style. The research is descriptive qualitative research. The research subject in this research is taken with purposive sampling technique. The subject research are four 2nd grade students of MTs Negeri Sragen; two students employed cognitive reflective syle and the rest applied cognitive impulsive style. Data collection technique in this research is done by employing questionnaire technique and interview based on assignment conducted in SPLDV subject. Data validation technique engaged in this research are triangulation, time, and adequate reference. The process of data analysis involves data reduction, data serving, and conclusion drawing. The result of the analysis shows that: factors affecting the capacity of the students of MTs Negeri Sragen in math problem solving on the subject of SPLDV are as follow: (a) Students’ level of comprehension in examining, scrutinizing, and understanding the given problems. (b) Students’ level of comprehension and proficiency towards the concept, characteristic, or rule related with operations material of SPLDV. There are significant numbers of student hardly understand on how to solve the SPLDV. (c) The ability to connect the concept of the material wih the problem solving steps. (d) Initiative in finding problem solving ideas and mixing the information which has been understood and combining the concept into the problem solving. However, it is influenced by the amount of practice done by the student. As the student encounters more assignment practice with various difficulty levels, it is expected to sharpen their ability in discovering ideas, integrating information, and combining concept into the problem solving. (e) The ability of the students towards the problem solving possibilities and their mathematical ability and skill to come across the idea into the problem solving. The majority of the students are learning from the example and thus they find it difficult to tackle new problem. Meanwhile, most of them do the assignment practice without a clear method, therefore they get confuse frequently. (f) Students’ accuracy towards SPLDV. There are a great number of students that have miscounted particularly on SPLDV. (g) The effectiveness of the method and learning tool applied by the teacher in the learning and teaching activity that meets student’s ability.
