Hubungan antara Kecenderungan Kepribadian Narsistik dan Financial Literacy dengan Perilaku Konsumtif pada Mahasiswa

Undergraduate students in their developing stages are categorized as late adolescents. These adolescents’ roles to develop and seek their own self identitiy as well as being a unique individual cause them to care their appearances and life styles. This affects their behaviors, which includes spending money for their mere desires. Adolescents with the tendency of narcissism love themselves too excessively, so that they are motivated to be consumptive. This consumptive behavior also increases when one lacks of adequate financial literacy that causes extravagancy. This research aims to understand the correlation between narcissism tendencies with financial literacy and consumptive behavior, understand the correlation between narcissism and consumptive behavior, and understand the correlation of financial literacy and consumptive behavior in the undergraduate students of Faculty of Economy and Business in Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. The subjects of this research are 93 students of Faculty of Economy and Business in Sebelas Maret University Surakarta. The sampling method used is cluster random sampling. This research’s instruments are the consumptive behavior scale (reliability: 0.910), narcissism scale (reliability: 0.932), and financial literacy scale (reliability: 0.905). The analysis of F-test shows that there is a significant correlation between narcissism and financial literacy with the score of Fcalculate=71,702>Ftable=3,10 (p=0,000<0,05; r=0,784). Partially, there is a positive significant correlation between narcissism and consumptive behavior (r = 0,670; p-value 0,000 < 0,05), and there is a negative significant correlation between financial literacy and consumptive behavior (r = -0,227; p-value 0,030 < 0,05). It means that the higher the narcissism is, the higher the consumptive behavior is. However, the higher the financial literacy is, the lower the consumptive behavior is. The total effectiveness is 61.43% with the effectiveness of narcissism variable of 51.93% and financial literacy variable of 9.50%. Keywords: Consumptive Behavior, Financial Literacy, and Narcissis
