The Relations of Noises and Ears Protector Devices Usage Obedience toward Hearing Thresholds by the Ground Handling Workers at PT. Gapura Angkasa at Adi Soemarmo International Airport Boyolali Eki Oktaviyoni¹, Khotijah¹, Ipop Sjarifah¹ Occupational Health and Safety Study Program, Faculty of Medicine Sebelas Maret University ABSTRACT Background: Noises intensity which exceeds threshold limit value can endanger the health especially for the hearing. The use of ear protector device (APT) while working in the noisy area can decrease the direct effect. The workers who are interviewed have a communication problem when they are on the outside of noisy area, afterwards, the observation shows that they did not wear the ear protector device. This research aims to reveal the intensity of the relations noisy and the obedience of the use of ear protector device toward hearing threshold value of ground handling workers of PT. Gapura Angkasa at Adi Soemarmo International Airport Boyolali. Research Method: This research belongs to the analytical observational research which used the cross sectional approach. The population used was 43 people and sampling of research using saturated sample which neglect age and work period. Noises was measured with sound level meter, the hearing threshold was measured by an audiometer tool, moreover, to assess the ear protector device usage obedience, the critical behavior checklist was utilized. The bivariate analysis used is the pearson correlation and spearman rank correlation. Result: Statistical testing result of the relation between noises intensity and the hearing threshold is significant with p = 0,001 for the right ear and for the left ear with p= 0,003. Afterwards, the statistical testing result of the relation between the ear protector device usage obedience and the hearing threshold for the right ear is not significant with p = 0,730 and p = 0,595 for the left ear, correlation direction result is negative (-) in which r = -0,054 and r = -0,083 for each ear consecutively. Conclusion: There is a significant relation between noises and the hearing threshold, however, no significant results for compliance with the use of ear protection with threshold values.
