Keefektifan Terapi Relaksasi Otot Progresif Untuk Memperbaiki Depresi dan Kualitas Hidup Pasien Geriatri DM Tipe 2

Depression was the most mental health problems in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus geriatrics. Depression caould give bad out comes and decreased life quality. Progressive Muscle Relaxation was one of the therapy method that to be expected given to depressed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus geriatrics. The aim of this study was to know the effectiveness of Progressive Muscle Relaxation improve depression and life quality of depressed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus geriatrics. Methods : This study was randomized controlled trial with pre-post test design. Subject of study was depressed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus geriatrics in Dr. Moewardi hospital Surakarta, as many as 34 subject of study that divided into two groups, experimental group (n=17) and control group (n=17).The experimental group received standard therapy and progressive muscle relaxation which given as much as 9 sessions, twice a week. The control group only recived standard therapy. Before and after getting intervention depression and life quality level measured by Geriatric Depression Scale (GDS) and WHOQOL BREF respectively, then analysis with unpaired t test Results : In this study, there were significant differences between the experimental groups and control groups with GDS score p = 0.000 (p < 0.05) and WHOQOL BREF score p = 0.000 (p < 0.05). Conclusion : Progressive Muscle Relaxation was effective to improve depression and life quality of depressed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus geriatrics.
