Cascaded wood utilisation could help to bridge the gap between the rising wood demand and fresh wood availability as well as contributing to a circular economy. However, the economic and environmental implications of cascading wood-based products are not fully known yet and are hence explored in this paper, considering both aspects simultaneously for the first time. The study focuses on the production of the following five products in an integrated system: medium-density fibre, oriented-strand board, particleboard, coated paper and wood pellets.
