BACKGROUND Dopaminergic degeneration is a major finding in brains of patients with Parkinson's disease (PD), together with Lewy bodies, intraneuronal inclusions mainly composed of the fibrillogenic protein \textgreeka-synuclein (\textgreeka-syn).
