Objective: Description of the diagnosis and the surgical removal of abomasal foreign bodies in a cow. Material and methods: A five-year-old Holstein cow was presented with clinical signs of a traumatic reticuloperitonitis. On radiographs, foreign material both in the reticulum and in the abomasum was visible. Results: All foreign bodies were removed manually during laparorumenotomy, those in the abomasum via the reticulo-omasal groove. Recovery was uneventful and the cow was sound and productive five months later. Conclusion: Abomasal foreign bodies can be detected radiographically and removed via laparorumenotomy. Clinical relevance: The abomasum can be explored via the reticulo-omasal groove
