comparison the effect of metoprolol and carvedilol on function class and mortality in heart failure

Background and objectives Cardiovascular disease and heart failure are the most important reasons of mortality in society. thus, B-blockers are the most important drugs in treatment of patients with heart failure. regarding the useful effects of B-blockers in reducing the symptom of patients and the rate of mortality and complications, the effects of these drugs in patients with heart failure were compared. Methods in this study, 40 patients with heart failure referring to booali hospital in 85 whose EF was less than 40% were investigated by metoprolo (25mg) per 8 hours and carvedilol (25mg) per 12 hours, and then we investigated the rate of mortality and hospitalized and function class of patients with heart failure for 6 months. Results The results of this study showed that the rate of mortality within these two groups with metoprolol and carvedilol that were evaluated during 6 month had no significant difference (2 death from each groups within 6 month). however the feeling of recover and the increase in the threshold of activity in the carvedilol group had higher significant. Conclusion However, the effect of carvedilol and metoprolol had no significant difference on mortality but it seems that the useful effects of carveddilol in reducing in the symptoms of patients and increase in the threshold of activity of more than metoprolol
