Evaluation the Recovery Potential of Municipal Solid Waste in Ardabil

Recovering materials in order to reducing the quantity of waste generated is one of the EPAUS strategies in the field of integrated waste management. Recycling process is not performed in Ardebil city, therefore the aim of this study was evaluation the recovery potential of Ardebil (Iran) municipal wastes in 2014-2015. In this descriptive-analytical study, primary data (classification of production, identification and classification of waste components) were obtained from different sources (library information, observation, and checklist), and completed information by the guidelines and calculations method. Weight percentage of waste ingredients for the during of 4 seasons using ASTM (56 sample- 100kg), and the moisture content and heat value were determined by the computational and laboratory methods. Data were analyzed with SPSS software and the data compared with results of other studies and guidelines conducted. The amount of Ardebil municipal wastes was determined 312-350 ton/day. Food and garden wastes had the highest weight percentage equal to 62.19% and the moisture content were equal to 62.98% and non-ferrous metals had the lowest percentage equal to 0.19% and the moisture content were equal to 9.55%. The weight percentage of other organic, inorganic, hazardous and special components was different. The heat value of Ardebil municipal wastes (wet weight) was calculated 7123 kj/kg. The Ardebil municipal wastes has a high potential (93.01%) for recovery and can be divided to usable components in composting, energy production, industries, and landfilling
