The five extant sub-species of tiger are all protected by international agreement in an effort to protect the few tigers that remain. The remaining sub-species are threatened by poaching as many parts of the tiger are used in Traditional East Asian Medicines (TEAM). Products can be bought in many countries that openly indicate that they contain tiger parts and contravene international laws. This presentation describes how DNA testing can be used to unambiguously identify the presence of tiger and other Panthera species in TEAM bought in the UK
