Post-menopausal women are a unique group who may be at increased risk for the development of coronary heart disease. As such, more research is needed to understand the physiology of these women. This study had two purposes. The first was to assess the effects of past stress levels on blood pressure (BP), heart rate (HR), and salivary cortisol excretion in post-menopausal women. The second purpose of this study was to examine the interactions between the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the cardiovascular system in these women.
