The Roman amphoras in Delos and the wine trade in the late hellenistique period

The present paper includes the study on amphorae and amphorae fragments that have been found in Delos excavation until 2000 and the history of the wine trade in the Eastern Mediterranean, and During the Late Hellenistic period and the times that Roman domination over Delos is stronger, they constructed the Roman Quarter, the Italian Agora (market) and many other monuments. The archaeological findings indicate the dynamic presence of Romans from the middle of the 3rd century BC. to 69 BC., when the island destroyed by the pirates of Athinodoros.When the port of Delos was declared free from paying tributes to the Romans, in combination with the destruction of Corinth (146 BC), the result was the emergence of the holy island as the largest transit center of the Aegean products and one of the most important ports of E. Mediterranean. The existence of a large number of Roman amphorae and fragments (insealed handles, lips et al.) testify to the significant presence of the Roman community on the island and its preferences in products, mostly imported from the regions of Italy and the Dalmatian coasts, by limiting the trade of the famous Greek wines.The analytical results of the materials which have been found in the amphorae (five types: Lamb2, Dressel 1a, b, c, Dressel 2-4, Brindisi and Greco-Italic) that we study on, showed that their content was usually wine, and in some cases it was oil or fish sauce.Η παρούσα διδακτορική διατριβή περιλαμβάνει τη μελέτη των ρωμαϊκών αμφορέων και οστράκων που έχουν ανακαλυφθεί στη Δήλο, καθώς και την ιστορία του εμπορίου του οίνου στην ανατολική Μεσόγειο κατά την ύστερη ελληνιστική εποχή, όταν η ρωμαϊκή αυτοκρατορία κυριάρχησε και το ιταλικό εμπόριο άκμασε, με τη δημιουργία της Ρωμαϊκής Συνοικίας, της Ιταλικής Αγοράς και πληθώρας μνημείων και οικιών. Τα αρχαιολογικά ευρήματα δηλώνουν τη δυναμική παρουσία των Ρωμαίων ήδη από τα μέσα του 3ου αιώνα π.Χ. έως και το 69 π.Χ., όταν η νήσος καταστράφηκε από τους πειρατές του Αθηνόδωρου.Η ανακήρυξη από τους Ρωμαίους του λιμανιού της Δήλου ως ελεύθερου από δασμούς, σε συνδυασμό με την καταστροφή της Κορίνθου (146 π.Χ.), είχε ως αποτέλεσμα την ανάδειξη της Δήλου ως του μεγαλύτερου διαμετακομιστικού κέντρου προϊόντων του Αιγαίου και ενός από τα σημαντικότερα της αν. Μεσογείου.Η ύπαρξη μεγάλου αριθμού ρωμαϊκών αμφορέων και οστράκων (ενσφράγιστες λαβές, χείλη κ.λπ.) μαρτυρούν τη σημαντική παρουσία της ρωμαϊκής κοινότητας στο νησί και τις προτιμήσεις της σε προϊόντα που προέρχονταν κυρίως από τις περιοχές της Ιταλίας και τις δαλματικές ακτές, περιορίζοντας έτσι τη διακίνηση των περίφημων ελληνικών οίνων.Από τα αναλυτικά αποτελέσματα του περιεχομένου των πέντε τύπων αμφορέων (Lamb.2, Dressel 1a, b, c, Dressel 2-4, Brindisi και Greco-Italic) που εξετάζουμε σε αυτήν τη μελέτη, διαπιστώθηκε ότι το περιεχόμενό τους ήταν κυρίως οίνος και σε κάποιες περιπτώσεις λάδι ή γάρος
