The ecclesiastical events of 1974. The case of the Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos.: the case of the Metropolis of Larissa and Tyrnavos

In my doctoral dissertation under the title «The ecclesiastical events of 1974; The case of Metropolis of Larissa and Tirnavos.», the historical context into which the ecclesiastical problem was created is being developed, which tormented the Greek governing Church internally, but also caused problems with the State, for almost 30 years, and specifically from 1967 until 1996. The political and ecclesiastical conditions that have caused the problem are being examined and analyzed. At the same time, along with the historical interpretation of the facts, it is also examined, according to the holy rules and laws, the acts of central ecclesiastical administration of this period, which we divide it in four chapters for better analysis: a) from 1967 – the year in which the problem was created with the rise on episcopal thrones of candidates, not from the legal Hierarchy, but from the so-called «Aristindin»* Holy Synod- until 1973, the year which the elected Archpriests, the so-called team of “12”, were declared as “downfallen”, b) from 1974 until 1989, period when the problem was archived, and essentially, was dormant despite all the backroom manoeuring to re-examine it, which was sought by the “downfallen” – resting Archpriests that were using their connections with politicians and ecclesiastical agents, to achieve their return back in action,c) from 1989 until 1996, a period during which the right to appeal in the Court of State (CoS) was conceded to the “downfallen” and a verdict that vindicated them was issued (1990). However, in 1996 a new, condemnatory decision from the same Court (CoS) was published (through legal maneuvers on behalf of the State, with the co-operation of the Administration of the Church), which essentially meant the end of the issue from a legal, at least, aspect and the finalizing of the initial punishment of the dethronement of the "12" Metropolitans. The doctoral dissertation includes (with commentary and critical remarks) all the decisions of the ecclesiastical disciplinary bodies of the Church of Greece, as well as of the top administrative courts of the country, which were issued prompted by the “problem of the twelve” (1967 and later) and are the current case-law on issues of election, recognition and status of the Archbishops of the Greek Church, andd) on the long term situation that Holy Metropolis of Larisa and Tirnavos experienced, throughout the whole period of the Church problem, as well as two texts, extremely revealing and interesting, from the ex-Metropolitan of Larisa and Tirnavos and present Metropolitan of Goumenissa, Axioupoli, Gefira and Polikastro Mr. Demetrios and the deceased Metropolitan of Larisa and Tirnavos Ignatios. * the word «ἀριστίνδην» (Aristindin) in Greek, cannot be translated. It means that you pick, not elect, the best among a group of people, the “elite”.Στήν διδακτορική διατριβή μου καί ὑπό τόν τίτλο «Τά Ἐκκλησιαστικά γεγονότα τοῦ 1974. Ἡ περίπτωση τῆς Μητροπόλεως Λαρίσης καί Τυρνάβου», ἀναπτύσσεται τό ἱστορικό πλαίσιο μέσα στό ὁποῖο δημιουργήθηκε τό ἐκκλησιαστικό πρόβλημα, τό ὁποῖο ταλάνισε τήν Ἑλλαδική διοικοῦσα Ἐκκλησία ἐσωτερικά, ἀλλά καί δημιούργησε τριβές στίς σχέσεις της μέ τήν Πολιτεία, σχεδόν ἐπί μία 30ετία καί συγκεκριμένα ἀπό τό 1967 μέχρι τό 1996. Ἐξετάζονται καί ἀναλύονται οἱ πολιτικές καί ἐκκλησιαστικές συνθῆκες πού τό προκάλεσαν. Παράλληλα, μέ τήν ἱστορική παράθεση τῶν γεγονότων, ἐξετάζονται, ὑπό τό πρῖσμα τῶν ἱερῶν κανόνων καί τῶν νόμων, οἱ πράξεις τῆς κεντρικῆς ἐκκλησιαστικῆς διοίκησης τῆς ἐπίμαχης περιόδου, τήν ὁποία ἐξετάζουμε χωρίζοντάς την, μέ ἀντίστοιχα κεφάλαια, σέ τέσσερα διαστήματα:α) ἀπό τό 1967 -ἔτος κατά τό ὁποῖο δημιουργήθηκε τό πρόβλημα μέ τήν ἀνάρρηση σέ ἐπισκοπικούς θρόνους ὑποψηφίων, ὄχι ἀπό κανονική Ἱεραρχία, ἀλλά ἀπό τή λεγομένη «ἀριστίνδην» Ἱερά Σύνοδο- μέχρι καί τό 1973, ὁπότε οἱ οὕτω πως ἐκλεγέντες ἀρχιερεῖς- ἡ λεγόμενη ὁμάδα τῶν «12», κηρύχθηκαν ἔκπτωτοι, β) ἀπό τό 1974 μέχρι τό 1989, ὁπότε τό πρόβλημα εἶχε μπεῖ στό ἀρχεῖο καί, οὐσιαστικά, τελοῦσε σέ «λήθαργο», παρά τίς παρασκηνιακές κινήσεις γιά ἐπανεξέτασή του, ἡ ὁποία ἐπιδιώχθηκε μέσῳ ἐπαφῶν τῶν ἐκπτώτων - σχολαζόντων ἀρχιερέων μέ πολιτικούς καί ἐκκλησιαστικούς παράγοντες, ἐπί σκοπῷ τήν ἐπάνοδό τους στήν ἐνεργό δράση, γ) ἀπό τό 1989 μέχρι τό 1996, διάστημα, κατά τή διάρκεια τοῦ ὁποίου παραχωρήθηκε τό δικαίωμα προσφυγῆς τῶν ἐκπτώτων στό Συμβούλιο τῆς Ἐπικρατείας (ΣτΕ) καί ἐκδόθηκε ἀπόφαση πού τούς δικαίωνε (1990). Ὼστόσο, τό 1996 ἐκδόθηκε (μέσῳ νομικῶν ἐλιγμῶν ἐκ μέρους τῆς Πολιτείας, συνεργούσης τῆς τότε Διοικήσεως τῆς Ἐκκλησίας) νέα, καταδικαστική ἀπόφαση ἀπό τό ἴδιο τό Δικαστήριο (ΣτΕ), πού σήμανε οὐσιαστικά τήν λήξη τοῦ ζητήματος ἀπό νομικῆς, τοὐλάχιστον, πλευρᾶς καί τήν ὁριστικοποίηση τῆς ἀρχικῶς ἐπιβληθείσης ποινῆς τῆς ἔκπτωσης ἀπό τό θρόνο τῶν «12» Μητροπολιτῶν. Στή διατριβή ἔχουν περιληφθεῖ (μετά σχολιασμοῦ καί κριτικῶν παρατηρήσεων) καί ὅλες οἱ ἀποφάσεις τῶν ἐκκλησιαστικῶν πειθαρχικῶν ὀργάνων τῆς Ἐκκλησίας τῆς Ἑλλάδος, καθώς καί τῶν ἀνωτάτων διοικητικῶν δικαστηρίων τῆς χώρας, οἱ ὁποῖες ἐκδόθηκαν με ἀφορμή τό «πρόβλημα τῶν δώδεκα» (1967 καί ἐντεῦθεν) καί ἀποτελοῦν τή σύγχρονη νομολογία σέ θέματα ἐκλογῆς, ἀναγνώρισης καί κατάστασης Ἀρχιερέων τῆς Ἐκκλησίας τῆς Ἑλλάδος καίδ) στήν μακροχρόνια κατάσταση πού βίωσε ἡ Ἱερά Μητρόπολη Λαρίσης καί Τυρνάβου, καθ’ ὅλη τή διάρκεια τοῦ ἐκκλησιαστικοῦ προβλήματος, καθώς καί δύο κείμενα, ἄκρως ἀποκαλυπτικά καί ἐνδιαφέροντα, ἀπό τόν πρώην Μητροπολίτη Λαρίσης καί Τυρνάβου καί νῦν Μητροπολίτη Γουμενίσσης, Ἀξιουπόλεως, Γεφύρας καί Πολυκάστρου κ.
