The clinical importance of breast duct exploration with the First Cyt® technique in low breast cancer risk women

The main aim of this research was to assess the ductal lavage method in low for breast cancer risk women.Our object was 80 women from the hospitals breast clinic with low Gail Risk <1.67%(a model of measuring breast cancer risk by using as criteria:age,family history,age of first period,age of first pregnancy,race and prior braest biopsy.The ductal lavage Samples were rsceived with the First Cyte technique fronm 334 ducts (4 mean per woman)and they were categirised in 4 categories:0 normal/benign 316/334(95%),I mild changes:16/334(4.8%),II florid atypia 2/334(0,2%),III :malignancy:-.Based on the above,80% of the women had normal findings,17,5% had mild changes and 2,5% had changes which needed more information and close follow up.The ductal lavage method is easy to learn,well-tolerated,finds the womens risk of developing breast cancer the time of the test and can receive samples reaching the lobule system.On the other hand,it needs a learning curve in order to overcome technical difficulties ,it may no diagnos3e pathology of lobular system and far from nipple,it is expensive and a repatition of the test may be needed.In conclusion,the ductal lavage method is reliable in acciordance with international bibliography.But in order to be used as a screening tool more women must be examined and new methods as biomarker detection must be implemented in the process.Σκοπός της μελέτης στα πλαίσια της παρούσας διατριβής είναι η αξιολόγηση της μεθόδου έκπλυσης των γαλακτοφόρων πόρων του μαστού σε γυναίκες χαμηλού κινδύνου.Το υλικό της μελέτης ήταν 80 γυναίκες χαμηλού κινδύνου Gail risk
