INTRODUCTIONEpithelial ovarian cancer (EOC) is the leading cause of death among gynecological malignancies and the fourth most common cause of cancer-related deaths among women. Recent data suggest that VEGF contributes to tumor growth not only by promoting angiogenesis but also by an indirect mechanism of regulation of T cells involved in the immune response against the tumor. T cells are pivotal in the induction and progression of the anti-tumor immune reaction in many types of cancer, including ovarian carcinomas and cancer patients demonstrate impaired T-cell functions.
