Diabetes mellitus (DM) encompasses a group of metabolic syndromes, with a common characteristic being high blood glucose levels. Hyperglycemia emerges as the ultimate phenotypic symptom, following a series of pathological processes related directly or indirectly to the inability or failure to produce insulin.
