Background/ Aims: Data on cerebral oxygenation during different levels of general anesthesia is scarce. In this prospective pilot study we examined the effects of two different depths of anesthesia on cerebral oxygenation (rSO2, SjVO2) in a cohort of patients undergoing major abdominal surgery.Methods: Twenty five patients undergoing major abdominal, non-vascular surgery (>2 hours duration) were assigned to sevoflurane cerebral state monitor (CSM) - guided anesthesia: Group A had a cerebral state index (CSI) value of 40-42 and group B had a CSI value of 50-52.
