Análisis de la efectividad en las aplicaciones m-health en dispositivos móviles dentro del ámbito de la formación médica

[EN]The new technologies have been evolved from the beginning in the society. The emergence of new mobile devices, Internet and its fast evolution, has made some changes in the habits and style of life of human beings. The way of interacting with each other, working, travelling, taking pictures, going shopping and even the methods used for studying. Everybody is always available and constantly in communication with friends or family through these tools. These instruments have made also the development of new Apps, which are software programs running on mobile devices providing new features and possibilities into them. However, the growth of these Apps have been produced disorganized, which means that currently there are around 2 million of Apps in the main marketplace and categorized according to the developer’s criteria. New mobile technologies or digital instruments have a great potential for learning (mlearning). Although they are being implementing in some Universities, its effectiveness, its pedagogical purpose and sometimes the lack of skills to use them, make more difficult to adopt them as an instructional resource. Besides and due to the increase of Apps in m-health field, it is necessary a regulation or supervision in order to use them with total and full confidence. Therefore, the main purpose of this Thesis is to contribute to the rapid and functional access of students to Knowledge and make possible they acquire the competences and skills to take the suitable decisions in the society. In order to achieve this goal, this Thesis propose a new simple, effective, complete, transparent and open certification process for Apps, which will make students use Apps with guarantee of effectiveness This research was divided in two main phases. The first one aimed to obtain the necessary information from students, teachers and medical residents and specialists in order to have the basis to develop the quality protocol. The second phase aimed to test empirically this designed protocol with a real App. Besides, in this second study, we wanted to analyse the effectiveness in learning with this App for the NeuroAnatomy discipline. Finally, based on the experience collected and performed during all these years of research, a new process is proposed. In summary, the main conclusion drawn from this research is that it seems that the acceptance of m-learning by students is high and its benefits, such as accessibility, flexibility and ubiquity, make them easy tools to be implemented. However, according to the results of this investigation, the main reasons of no using them are the lack of necessity, an unawareness perception and no support of Institutions or Universities. Therefore, we expect this model could be launched and implemented in order to address, observe, examine and analyse the new advantages and opportunities of these tools as pedagogical, instructional and formative instruments.[ES]La evolución de las nuevas tecnologías se ha producido desde el inicio de los tiempos en nuestra sociedad. La aparición de nuevos dispositivos móviles, de Internet y su rápida evolución, ha hecho que hayan cambiado los hábitos de la población e incluso su forma de vida, la forma que tienen de comunicarse con sus compañeros, de trabajar, de viajar, de tomar fotografías, de comprar e incluso de estudiar. Están permanentemente actualizados, disponibles y constantemente interactuando con otras personas a través de estas nuevas herramientas. Estos instrumentos también han provocado la aparición de las Apps, las cuales son programas informáticos que se instalan y ejecutan en los dispositivos móviles ofreciendo nuevas funcionalidades y posibilidades. Sin embargo, el crecimiento de estas Apps se ha producido de forma desestructurada, existiendo actualmente más de dos millones de Apps, categorizadas según el propio fabricante o desarrollador. En paralelo, se considera que las nuevas tecnologías móviles o herramientas digitales tienen mucho potencial aún por explotar para el aprendizaje (m-learning). Es cierto, que se está implantando el uso de estas herramientas en algunas facultades y universidades, sin embargo, su efectividad, su uso pedagógico y en algunas ocasiones, la falta de capacidad suficiente para implementarla, hace que sea complicada su adopción. Además, y debido a que las Apps en el mundo m-health están creciendo cada vez más, se hace necesario, por tanto, una revisión de estas Apps para que puedan utilizarse con total y plena confianza. La presente Tesis Doctoral tiene como finalidad contribuir a que los estudiantes puedan acceder al conocimiento de una forma ágil y funcional, y de esta manera puedan adquirir las competencias y capacidades necesarias para, en un futuro tomar las decisiones adecuadas en la sociedad. Para poder lograr este propósito, se quiere proponer un proceso de certificación de Apps sencillo, efectivo, completo, transparente y abierto para que los estudiantes puedan utilizar las Apps certificadas con la suficiente confianza y garantía de la efectividad de su uso. La investigación se dividió en dos fases, la primera para obtener la información necesaria de los estudiantes y profesionales del sector de la educación médica que serviría de base para elaborar el protocolo de calidad y una segunda fase orientada a probar de forma empírica el protocolo con una App. Además, en esta segunda fase, se quería hacer un análisis para medir la efectividad en el aprendizaje de conocimientos de Neuroanatomía a través de una App concreta. Finalmente, se propone un proceso completo que se fundamenta en la experiencia recogida y ejecutada durante estos años de investigación y que pretende, asimismo, que sea lo más práctica posible. En definitiva, la conclusión fundamental de esta investigación es que parece que la aceptación del m-learning por parte de los estudiantes es bastante elevada, y que la accesibilidad, la flexibilidad y la ubicuidad que ofrecen, les hacen herramientas fáciles de aplicar Sin embargo, la razón principal por la que no se están utilizando de forma continua y masiva, según los resultados de la investigación realizada, es por falta de necesidad y desconocimiento y también por falta de apoyo de las Instituciones, por lo que se espera que el modelo propuesto pueda ser implementado de forma comercial, para que se pueda abordar, observar, examinar y analizar las nuevas oportunidades y ventajas que puedan provenir de su uso pedagógico, didáctico o formativo
