Self-efficacy according to gender and it is influence on scientific-technology field.

Trabajo Fin de Master Curso 2015/2016[EN] The objective of the present study is to establish the gender differences in students´ self-efficacy beliefs and their influence on the professional decision making. A systematic review of scientific papers, after the year 2004, using quasi-experimental, qualitative and quantitative methodology carried out. The databases consulted were SpringerLink, WOK and Dialnet. Nine articles were selected which better fit the objectives. The results suggest that there were gender differences in mathematical self-efficacy, girls have lower self-efficacy than boys, even though there were no differences in performance between them. It seems that these differences take place in primary and increase throughout secondary. In addition, the data indicate that the gender stereotypes of fathers and mothers influence the self-efficacy of their children indirectly, and it increase in the case of the boys and decrease in the case of the girls. In conclusion, self-efficacy in the scientific-technological field is biased by belonging to one sex or another, girls perceive less self-efficacy in these fields, moving away from them, and on the other hand, they perceive good skills and performance in these specialties, choosing them as a niche of study and work. Therefore, we observe gender differences in self-efficacy and how this self-efficacy is a vital part in the vocational choice of young people, they choose those fields where they feel capable and competent. With regard to the practical implications, these gender differences knowledge allows us to deal with them, and to implement practices that increase the self-efficacy of girls in the scientific and technological areas and allow them to feel as capable as men. [ES] El objetivo del presente trabajo es estudiar las diferencias de género en las creencias de autoeficacia de los estudiantes y su influencia sobre la elección vocacional. Se llevó a cabo una revisión sistemática de artículos científicos posteriores al año 2004, en las que se utilizaron estudios cuasi-experimentales, cualitativos y cuantitativos. Las bases de datos consultadas fueron SpringerLink, WOK y Dialnet. Se seleccionaron los 9 artículos que mejor se ajustaban a los objetivos fijados. Los resultados mostraron diferencias de género en la autoeficacia matemática, donde, las niñas presentaban una menor autoeficacia que los niños aun cuando no existían diferencias en el rendimiento entre ambos. Parece ser que estas diferencias aparecen en primaria y se van acentuando a lo largo de secundaria. Además, los datos parecen indicar que los estereotipos de género de los progenitores influyen indirectamente en la autoeficacia de sus hijos/as, aumentando la de los chicos y disminuyendo la de las chicas. En conclusión, la autoeficacia en el ámbito científico-tecnológico se encuentra sesgada por la pertenencia a un sexo u otro, donde ellas perciben una menor autoeficacia en estos campos, alejándose de los mismos, y ellos perciben buenas habilidades eligiéndolas como un nicho de estudio y trabajo. Por otro lado, vemos como la autoeficacia se muestra como un parte vital en la elección vocacional de los jóvenes, ya que estos eligen aquellos campos donde se perciben capaces y competentes. En cuanto a las implicaciones prácticas, el conocimiento de estas diferencias de género nos permite abordar las mismas, y poner en marcha prácticas que aumenten la autoeficacia de las chicas en las áreas científico-tecnológicas y permitan que estas se sientan igual de capaces que los hombres
