Purpose: To study in vitro the mutant prevention concentration (MPC) in clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa which is exposed in gradually increasing imipenem/cilastatin concentrations. Additionally, to explore resistance mechanisms, which are induced during the special conditions of the experiment.Materials and methods: Sixteen susceptible to imipenem/cilastatin clinical strains of Pseudomonas aeruginosa were used. For bacterial typing the API ID32GN and ID32E system was applied. Susceptibility tests were performed using the agar disc diffusion test, the double-disc synergy test (DDST) and the EDTA-Imipenem disc synergy test.
