The genealogy of Jesus Christ in Mathew's Gospel in John Chrysostom and the coptic church writers from the tenth century onwards

This research is entitled: "The genealogy of Jesus Christ in Matthew's Gospel in John Chrysostom and the Coptic church writers from the I century onwards." With this issue are many questions and difficult problems of interpretation, the solution of which contributed Coptic church fathers and writers, following in the footsteps of the Fathers of the Church.Some of these problems are: a) the historical starting point genealogisis general, b) the sources of lineage c) the appropriateness of the placement of the lineage at the beginning of the gospel of Matthew, d) reason for the split in the lineage dekatetrades three generations e) not result in the second count dekatetrada, f) the absence of some kings of the second dekatetrada, g) the presence on the list reprehensible persons, particularly women,etc. The individual findings of the detailed analysis of the topic of this thesis canbe summarized as follows:Some of these problems are: a) the historical starting point genealogisis general, b) the sources of lineage c) the appropriateness of the placement of the lineage at the beginning of the gospel of Matthew, d) reason for the split in the lineage dekatetrades three generations e) not result in the second count dekatetrada, f) the absence of some kings of the second dekatetrada, g) the presence on the list reprehensible persons, particularly women,etc. The individual findings of the detailed analysis of the topic of this thesis canbe summarized as follows: 1) The Coptic church writers, addressing problems in the genealogical list and endeavoring to rely on the data of the Bible, the data that the Old and New Testament are spread analysis and labeling in general. Beyond the purely interpretative needs and objectives: a) will, according to the list, the general doctrine of the church: lch. argue that rise along with other writings of the New Testament, the three offices of Christ: the royal, prophetic and pontifical or what arms the church in its fight against (sects) herises (the Manenta and Marcion, the Docitism, Gnosticism, the Eutechianism, Apollinarism, Nestorianism and Pelagianism). b) why was not the only attempt to solve the interpretative problems of genealogical list, but was intended to build the crew of the church in special circumstances and difficulties in which it lived. 2) The prevailing principle of interpretation in the effort for the Copts interpretive approach genealogical list, without underestimating the istorikokritiki is the allegory. The interpretive method is that, when assessing the writers dealt with, for moral - spiritual teaching of the faithful. 3) The study of genealogy gave the Coptic church writers the opportunity to repeat views of older fathers and especially Chrysostom and then highlight the multi-purpose and importance of, first, not only within the gospel of Matthew and in general K . Testament, but the whole teaching of the church. The importance of genealogy lies in fathers who studied briefly at: a) highlight the historical Jesus as a person, for which we have full knowledge of his ancestors and origins. Alongside the obvious emphasis on the full humanity of Jesus and the obvious apologetic and didactic aim is to try and confirm the foundation, respectively, on the historicity of his face, faith in it. b) demonstrate to the Jews, who were the main readers of the Gospel of Matthew, that Jesus Christ is the viscus from the viscera. By extension, as a son David, rightfully belongs to the heirs of the throne as the son of Abraham and recipients of the promises of God. Anything associated with him was made in accordance with the pronouncements of the Old Testament. c) be connected, according to the previous, narrow the Old Testament and the holy people of the New Testament, whose genealogy is an introduction and frontispiece. d) to point out clearly and even suing, that this prokatangeltheis Messiah in the Old Testament are the Jews who crucified. Suing or audit against the Jews, but to repentance, it works against the Copts performers: i) the fact that the genealogy of good and evil coexist, which means that the coming of Christ is not a conquest of the Jews, but God's gift, ii) noted the weaknesses of Jewish history (birds etc.), which were not canceled the fulfillment of God's promises to them, and iii) the list synarithmisi women or foreigners or not of good conduct which aims to show that God, through Christ, and opened to the nations not bound by the chosen people. Χρυσόστομο και τους Κόπτες εκκλησιαστικούς συγγραφείς από τον Ι΄ αιώνα και εξής». Με το θέμα αυτό συνδέονται πολλά ερωτήματα και δύσκολα ερμηνευτικά προβλήματα, στη λύση των οποίων συνέβαλαν οι Κόπτες εκκλησιαστικοί συγγραφείς και πατέρες, ακολουθώντας τα χνάρια των πατέρων της Εκκλησίας. Μερικά από τα προβλήματα αυτά είναι: α) η ιστορική αφετηρία της γενεαλόγησης γενικά, β) οι πηγές της γενεαλογίας γ) η σκοπιμότητα της τοποθέτησης της γενεαλογίας στην αρχή του ευαγγελίου του Ματθαίου, δ) ο λόγος της διαίρεσης της γενεαλογίας σε τρεις δεκατετράδες γενεών, ε) η μη συνέπεια της αρίθμησης στη δεύτερη δεκατετράδα, στ) η απουσία κάποιων βασιλέων από τη δεύτερη δεκατετράδα, ζ) η παρουσία στον κατάλογο επιλήψιμων προσώπων και κυρίως γυναικών κ.λπ. Τα επί μέρους συμπεράσματα της λεπτομερούς ανάλυσης του θέματος της παρούσας διατριβής μπορούμε να συνοψίσουμε ως εξής: 1) Οι κόπτες εκκλησιαστικοί συγγραφείς, αντιμετωπίζοντας τα προβλήματα που παρουσιάζει ο γενεαλογικός κατάλογος και καταβάλλοντας προσπάθεια να στηρίζονται στα δεδομένα της Βίβλου, στα δεδομένα δηλαδή της Παλαιάς και Κ. Διαθήκης, απλώνονται σε αναλύσεις και επισημάνσεις γενικότερες. Πέραν των καθαρά ερμηνευτικών αναγκών και στόχων: α) υπερασπίζονται, με βάση τον κατάλογο, γενικότερα τη δογματική διδασκαλία της εκκλησίας: λχ. Υποστηρίζουν ότι θεμελιώνει, μαζί με άλλα κείμενα της Κ. Διαθήκης, τα τρία αξιώματα του Χριστού: το βασιλικό, προφητικό και αρχιερατικό ή ό,τι οπλίζει την εκκλησία στον αγώνα της κατά των αιρέσεων (του Μάνεντα, του Μαρκίωνα, του Δοκητισμού, του Γνωστικισμού, του Ευτυχιανισμού, του Απολλιναρισμού, του Νεστοριανισμού και Πελαγιανισμού). β) ο λόγος τους δεν ήταν αποκλειστικά προσπάθεια επίλυσης των ερμηνευτικών προβλημάτων του γενεαλογικού καταλόγου, αλλά αποσκοπούσε να οικοδομήσει το πλήρωμα της εκκλησίας μέσα στις ειδικές συνθήκες και δυσκολίες στις οποίες ζούσε. 2) Η κυριαρχούσα ερμηνευτική αρχή στην προσπάθεια των Κοπτών για ερμηνευτική προσέγγιση του γενεαλογικού καταλόγου, χωρίς να αγνοείται η ιστορικοκριτική, είναι η αλληγορία. Η ερμηνευτική αυτή μέθοδος προσφέρεται, κατά την εκτίμηση των συγγραφέων που μας απασχόλησαν, για ηθική - πνευματική διδασκαλία των πιστών. 3) Η μελέτη της γενεαλογίας έδωσε στους Κόπτες εκκλησιαστικούς συγγραφείς τη δυνατότητα να επαναλάβουν απόψεις παλαιοτέρων πατέρων και ιδιαίτερα του Χρυσοστόμου και στη συνέχεια να υπογραμμίσουν την πολύπλευρη σκοπιμότητα και σημασία της, κατ’ αρχάς όχι μόνο μέσα στο ίδιο το ευαγγέλιο του Ματθαίου και γενικότερα στην Κ. Διαθήκη, αλλά και στην όλη διδασκαλία της εκκλησίας. Η σκοπιμότητα της γενεαλογίας έγκειται, κατά τους πατέρες που μελετήσαμε, εν συντομία στα εξής: α) να προβάλλει τον Χριστό ως πρόσωπο ιστορικό, για το οποίο διαθέτουμε πλήρη γνώση των προγόνων του και της καταγωγής του. Παράλληλα είναι προφανής ο τονισμός της πλήρους ανθρώπινης φύσης του Ιησού και εμφανής ο απολογητικός και διδακτικός στόχος που είναι ή προσπάθεια επιβεβαίωσης και αντίστοιχα η θεμελίωση, πάνω στην ιστορικότητα του προσώπου του, της πίστης σ’ αυτό. β) να καταδείξει στους Ιουδαίους, που ήταν οι κύριοι αναγνώστες του ευαγγελίου του Ματθαίου, ότι ο Ιησούς Χριστός είναι σπλάγχνο από τα σπλάγχνα τους. Κατ’ επέκταση αυτός, ως υιός Δαυίδ, ανήκει δικαιωματικά στους κληρονόμους του θρόνου του και ως υιός Αβραάμ στους αποδέκτες των επαγγελιών του Θεού. Ό,τι σχετίζεται μαζί του έγινε σύμφωνα με τις εξαγγελίες της Π. Διαθήκης. γ) να συνδέσει, σύμφωνα με τα προηγούμενα, στενά την Π. Διαθήκη και τα ιερά της πρόσωπα με την Καινή, της οποίας η γενεαλογία αποτελεί εισαγωγή και προμετωπίδα. δ) να υπομνήσει προφανώς και μάλιστα καταγγελτικά, ότι αυτός ο προκαταγγελθείς στην Π. Διαθήκη Μεσσίας είναι αυτός που οι Ιουδαίοι εσταύρωσαν. Καταγγελτικά ή ελεγκτικά εις βάρος των Ιουδαίων, με στόχο όμως τη μετάνοια, λειτουργεί κατά τους Κόπτες ερμηνευτές: i) το γεγονός ότι στη γενεαλογία συνυπάρχουν καλοί και κακοί, πράγμα που σημαίνει ότι η έλευση του Χριστού δεν αποτελεί κατάκτηση των Ιουδαίων αλλά δωρεά του Θεού, ii) η υπόμνηση των αδύνατων σημείων της ιουδαϊκής ιστορίας (αιχμαλωσία κ.λ.π.), τα οποία ωστόσο δεν ματαίωσαν την εκπλήρωση των υποσχέσεων του Θεού προς αυτούς και iii) η συναρίθμηση στον κατάλογο γυναικών είτε αλλοεθνών είτε μη καλής διαγωγής πράγμα που αποσκοπεί να δείξει ότι ο Θεός, δια του Χριστού, ανοίγεται στα έθνη και δεν δεσμεύεται από τον περιούσιο λαό του. Η τελευταία διαπίστωση δίνει ευκαιρία στους Κόπτες ερμηνευτές να τονίσουν γενικά ότι η παρουσία των ως άνω γυναικών υπογραμμίζει το γεγονός ότι ο Χριστός προσέλαβε αδιακρίτως τον όλο άνθρωπο, ακόμη και τον αμαρτωλό, και τον δικαίωσε. 4) Πέραν της πολλαπλούς σκοπιμότητας και λειτουργίας που η γενεαλογία επιτελεί στο ευαγγέλιο του Ματθαίου και γενικότερα στο σώμα της Κ. Διαθήκης η ερμηνευτική προσπάθεια του γενεαλογικού καταλόγου από τους Κόπτες συγγραφείς τους έδωσε την ευκαιρία στα έργα τους να κάνουν λόγο για τρεις βασικές πτυχές της θεολογίας του Ματθαίου: α) θεολογία του ελέους β) θεολογία της δικαιοσύνης και παιδαγωγίας γ) θεολογία της εκπλήρωσης των επαγγελιών και συνεπώς της εμπιστοσύνης
