The study of eclipsing binary systems remains one of the most powerful research fields in stellar astrophysics because it provides the primary source of calculating fundamentals properties of stars (masses, radii, temperatures) and every form of stellar activity (spots, accreting discs, pulsations) through photometry and spectroscopy or/and through the study of long-term variability of their period. Additionally it allows testing of stellar structure and evolution theories and the prediction of third body companions of stellar or sub-stellar origin.
