The cultural construction of the psychopath in modern Greece. An historical and ethnographic approach

This dissertation adopts an ethnographic and historical perspective for the understanding and analysis of the cultural construction of the psychopath in modern Greece. It is based on long term fieldwork in urban and rural psychiatric clinics as well as in a group house for the deinstitutionalization and social inclusion of the psychopathic patients in Athens.This thesis, can be classified in the field of history and medical and cultural anthropology. It offers the theoretical and methodological means for the study of diversity and the construction of the Other (disabled, psychopath, homeless, etc).Η διατριβή υιοθετώντας την ανθρωπολογική οπτική, διερευνά την πρόσληψη και αντιμετώπιση του ψυχοπαθή στη σύγχρονη Ελλάδα καθώς και τον ιστορικό διαχωρισμό του θεωρούμενου φυσιολογικού από τον μη φυσιολογικό. Βασίζεται σε μακρόχρονη εθνογραφική έρευνα σε αστικά και αγροτικά ψυχιατρεία καθώς και σε ένα οικοτροφείο αποασυλοποίησης και κοινωνικής επανένταξης στην Αθήνα.Η μελέτη εντάσσεται στα πεδία της Ιστορίας και της Ιατρικής και Πολιτισμικής Ανθρωπολογίας ενώ παράλληλα παρέχει τα θεωρητικά και μεθοδολογικά εργαλεία για την μελέτη της ετερότητας και την κατασκευή του διαφορετικού Άλλου (ανάπηρος, ψυχοπαθής, άστεγος, κλπ)
