The coastal region is characterized by dynamics that are governed by two major mechanisms. The coastline sediment supply mechanism and the sediment distribution mechanism along the coasts. The soil erosion in a hydrological basin, mainly due to precipitation and surface runoff, supplies the coastline with sediments. Therefore, the shoreline erosion mechanisms are closely related to the sediment balance as well as to the factors that intercept sediment from reaching the shoreline regions.At early nineties, two major hydroelectric reservoirs were constructed in the Greek part of Nestos River, at the locations “Thisavros” and “Platanovrysi”.
