Staphylococcus is one of the most important pathogens implicated in infections. With the emergence and dissemination of MRSA in hospitalized patients and in the community, therapy for staphylococcal infections has become increasingly difficult due to their resistance to antibiotics. Glycopeptides have been the drugs of choice for treating multiresistant staphylococci. However, with the emergence of intermediate susceptibility to glycopeptides, other treatment alternatives such as linezolid and quinupristin/dalfopristin have become important.
