The subject of this doctoral thesis is to reveal and evaluate the life, books and theological teachings of one of the most remarkable ecclesiastical writers of 11th and 12th c., Eustratius of Nicaea. In the first chapter, after a short review of the political and ecclesiastical situation of the era, it is stressed that the basic characteristics of the theological movement of that particular time are considered to be: a) disruption of the relation between theology and philosophy and b) the reappearance of heretical views, into which the protagonists were Michael Psellos, Michael of Ephesus, John Italus and Eustratius of Nicaea.
