Takayasu arteritis (TA) is a granulomatous vasculitis of the aorta, its branches and the pulmonary arteries. It is a rare disease, most commonly found in Southeastern Asia and Latin America, but it is present universally. It seems that there are differences with regard to epidemiological and clinical characteristics of TA, related to its geographical distribution. The prevalence and general characteristics of the disease are unknown in Greece. The aim of the present thesis was therefore to study TA in the Greek territory and describe its clinical, epidemiological and immunogenetic features. Forty-two patients were identified.
