Clinical practice and research provide evidence indicating the involvement of psychological and psychophysiological factors in essential hypertension. According to previous studies personality traits play an important role in the development of cardiovascular disease. Moreover, little is known about the role of interoception (i.e. the ability of perceiving bodily signals) in essential hypertension.
