Aim: The recognition of ‘true’ ICU-acquired infections, according to the proposed classification based on the carrier state of patients, and early prevention and proper treatment of ICU-acquired infections. There were two criteria established in this study: i) All patients were admitted directly into the ICU, and ii) Patients were to stay for at least 7 days in the ICU. Material: A total of 112 patients were studied. All of them were hospitalized in the First Intensive Care Unit of General Hospital “G.
