Introduction: The endothelium is a dynamic and heterogeneous system that lines the entire vascular compartment and plays a pivotal role in maintaining cardiovascular homeostasis. The main functions of the endothelium are to maintain blood circulation and fluidity, regulate inflammation and coagulation pathways, and maintain redox balance, thus preventing the development and progression of atherosclerosis.
