The ETS family of transcription factors are characterized by an evolutionarily conserved DNA- binding domain, the ETS domain, of about 85 amino acid recidues that forms a winged helix-tum-helix structural motif. The family of ETS proteins includes transcriptional activators or repressors that their transcriptional activity is regulated by RAS/MAPK signaling pathway. ETS family members control important biological processes, including cell proliferation, differentiation, apoptosis,hematopoiesis, angiogenesis and oncogenesis by recognizing and binding due to the ETS domain to consensus sequences with the characteristic motif GGAA/T in the promoters and enhancers oftheir target genes.
