A distributed credentials-based access control environment is introduced appropriate for protecting XML resources by subscribed and unknown users, adopting the idea of credentials certificates. Moreover, delegation and revocation of permissions is addressed since they are both processes belonging in the general access control service. Furthermore, a quality of service negotiation for storage systems is introduced helping to improve the responsiveness of the proposed environment. Finally, a technique for improved organization of access control policies is suggested.
