Canine leishmaniosis (CL), caused by the intracellular protozoon L. infantum, is perhaps the most common infectious disease in Greece. Although recently a lot of research has been carried out on the immunopathogenesis of CL, there is still lack of information on the relevant immune mechanisms pertaining exfoliative dermatitis (ED), which is the most common cutaneous manifestation of the disease. Consequently, the aim of the present study was the cellular immunophenotyping of ED in association with its histopathology, in an attempt to throw more light on its immunopathogenesis.
