Abstract

Field and laboratory studies were carried out between 1994 and 1997 to assess the potential for plant species P. vulgaris L. and P. coccineus to act as hosts of cucumber mosaic cucumovirus (CMV), bean common mosaic virus (BCMV), alfalfa mosaic virus (AMV), bean yellow mosaic virus (BYMV) and clover yellow vein virus (CYVV) in several areas in Greece. 4.733 bean leaf samples were collected and tested by serological and biological methods. Incidence of CMV, BCMV, BYMV and AMV in common beans (P. vulgaris) was found to be 27,30%, 19,80%, 47,44% and 23,15% respectively whereas the incidence for CMV, BCMV and AMV for P. coccineus, “Gigantes” was 10,80%, 1,82% and 9,1% respectively. Serotypes I and II of CMV were identified through biological,...
