This thesis seeks to answer the question: what are the best practices when creating a narrative about disability? To answer this question, I analyze the development of disability narratives throughout four novels written over the last century; The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, The Curious Incident of the Dog at Night-time by Mark Haddon, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck, and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. The first two novels feature a first person narration of disability, a character with a disability serves as the narrator of at least part of the novel.
