Broken Promises: How the Professional World Fails to Fulfill Women’s Aspirations

Young women are now raised to believe that they can reach for anything they can dream up. In many ways, they are no longer held to the expectation of becoming a housewife or choosing a gendered career path. However, the workplace still proves to be an unhospitable environment for women – they are faced with numerous obstacles that inhibit their ability to be successful. Among these difficulties are prejudices against certain traits in the workplace, lack of confidence in female employees, and a structure unrealistic for maintaining a healthy family and work life. To combat these issues, women need to be able to reach positions of power within their industry and workplaces need to exercise more policies that integrate family and work. Doing so will allow women to have a better chance at being both a successful professional and a happy mother
