This study explores the syntax of the impersonal and passive SE structures in the Spanish language and inspects how these two constructions are explained in three first and three second-year Spanish textbooks. A discussion of the syntax of the impersonal SE and passive SE leads to an examination of the instruction of these two phrasal constructions in the six textbooks. The purpose of this study is to understand how these two important uses of the pronoun SE are described to first and second-year Spanish students.M.A
