Storm Report

This draft report contains information about a large storm event during Halloween of 2015. It includes rainfall information for several Austin creeks, including Waller Creek, as well as web traffic, a timeline of the event, and a description of resulting deaths.EXECUTIVE SUMMARY: The discussion from the National Weather Service (NWS) leading up to this event was that it was a typical “El Nino” type storm event. There was a warm front with an upper level trough with abundant moisture that produced very heavy rainfall and severe weather across much of south central Texas. In addition, leading up to this event (October 24 – October 25, 2015) the Austin-Travis County area received very heavy rainfall (see map below). The soil moisture leading up to this first storm event were extremely dry. However, after receiving this much rainfall, the soil moisture was close to saturation. For the October 30, 2015 storm event, the NWS had initially forecasted rainfall from 2-4 inches with isolated pockets of up to six inches possible.Waller Creek Working Grou
