Angelina County has passed through many stages in its transition from a frontier county, where lawlessness prevailed, to a peaceful land of smokestacks and factory whistles. Most of the sawmill towns which flourished thirty or forty years ago have disappeared, leaving little or no trace of their existence. Many of these have been forgotten even by people who should remember them. Because these early mills paved the way for the present industrialization in Angelina County, some record should be made in order to remind future generations of their debt to the past.
