The power companies have not been able to supply all the electricity the public demands during certain critical periods-as for example during heat waves, when air-conditioners, refrigerators, and electric fans add heavier power loads. The result is more frequent blackouts and brownouts (voltage reductions) as the power companies struggle to keep the load within the limits of generating capacity
