Policy Brief: National Guard and Reserves. The Burden On U.S. Army Reserves and Army National Guard

The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq have placed a burden on all the U.S. military services, most notably the Army’s 500,000 troops. Almost 140,000 U.S. military personnel are in Iraq, with more than 15,000 in Afghanistan and 30,000 in Kuwait.
